Cheeseball Parade

Over the weekend, we got a lovely taste of small town, German style. One of the kindergartens (German kindergarten is akin to American preschool, for kids ages 3 to 6) in town was celebrating their 100th anniversary. So, the town shut down all the streets at the center of town and children from every kindergarten in town got together to march in a parade.

Look how many people came! And this is just part of the route. I was pretty amazed.

Each class in each kindergarten represented a different book, some of which are recognizable to Americans...

...and some of which were not, but were equally adorable.

Cheeseball's class walked out of the pages of a book called Swimmy. I've never heard of it, but feel like I might have to buy it now!

Very cute! Love how that lady is just chugging a beer watching the kindergarten parade in the first picture. LOL.

Great costumes for the kids! They're all so creative and pretty spot on!

Lol, there was a beer garden set up in proximity to the kindergarten parade. Not a whole lot is done without beer around here...

Sounds like "family friendly" doesn't mean "boring" in German.

Definitely not!

And it seems to me that drinking doesn't have the same stigma here as it does in the US. Nobody gets antsy about drinking around kids, drinking while walking down the street, drinking whenever, really...

You should have seen my brother in law's face, as we were leaving my daughter's birthday party at Chuck E Cheese, when he realized that they served beer there. He said, "You mean I could have been drinking for the past four hours?!" LOL. I guess it does make some kid events more, uh, tolerable for some people.

If it makes him feel any better, they have a two beer limit. And their beers are small. Really, hardly satisfying...
